Dive Deeper: Great Ocean Conveyor

Is the Gulf Stream collapsing? What drives ocean currents, such as the ocean conveyor belt? What role does salt, temperature, and wind play? How do ocean currents benefit our climate, weather, and marine food chains? These two FREE short courses help you to learn and retain the information presented by Dave Borlace in the Just Have a Think (JHAT) video #48 and beyond, all in less than 30 minutes! This course covers Part 1 (the first half) of Just Have a Think's The Great Ocean Conveyor, video #48. This FREE course is designed to support and enhance learning of the climate and ocean concepts provided by Dave Borlace of Just Have a Think: The Climate and Sustainable Energy Channel.

The course helps you to better understand the theory and impacts of ocean circulation; oceanic current movement caused by density differences (thermohaline circulation) and the wind; surface and bottom currents; key definitions such as upwelling, overturning, stratification, and blue ocean event;  the significance of the Arctic Circumpolar Current; and the physical and ecological ways that oceans are connected. The course also addresses how ocean currents benefit our climate, weather, and marine food chains.

This course is comprised of two modules. The Initial Learning module helps you learn the material at a comfortable pace. The Achieving Mastery module lets you practice until you respond accurately and without hesitation, thus greatly increasing the likelihood that you can convey an understanding of this material when discussing it with others.
